Meet the team: Callum Foley

Name: Callum Foley

Job title: Customer Engagement Advisor

When did you start working at Skills Forward?

I started working at Skills Forward as an apprentice in October 2017 and I’ve never looked back.

What do you do on a typical day?

I’m now part of the Customer Engagement Team, we aim to provide outstanding support to customers, wearing a smile in the process – this really helps on video calls! Each day is different and a mixture of delivering online platform demonstrations, webinars and technical support to customers and internal stakeholders. I also follow up with new customer enquiries, looking at how our services can best support their organisation and learners.

Our fast pace and response to the sector has meant I’ve been able to explore other areas of the business. I have become really interested in our development and introduction of new software. It’s now become a strength of mine and not a direction I thought my career would take but I’m so glad it has!

Has your role changed since you started?

I was able to progress really quickly through my apprenticeship and I was delighted to become a permanent member of Skills Forward once my apprenticeship finished. There are new opportunities that come up as we develop and grow as a business. Working at Skills Forward has developed my ambition and I have really high hopes of progressing within the company with the support of my team.

Also, aside from professional development, I have been personally supported by the team and my manager. I felt like before I worked here, I didn’t have a lot of people who believed in me. I wasn’t on a great path and my life could have been really different. Since working here, I’ve proved a lot of people, and myself, wrong. I never thought I would have a successful career or spend time doing charity work and making sensible decisions, (I’ve even opened an ISA) but I’ve turned everything around. I can genuinely say that working here has made my life so much better.

What’s your best memory of working at Skills Forward?

I have a couple which I need to give a shout out to. I delivered my first ever college training session on my own when I was 17! I was so nervous but when I completed it, it felt tremendous. I remember driving home shaking with excitement!

More recently, pitching to Coca-Cola in London was such an amazing experience and huge career high for me.

What’s the best thing about working at Skills Forward?

Making a positive change to society through education and working around such great people.

What are your goals for the future?

To support Skills Forward growing and expanding in the sector, making my peers proud in the process. I am undertaking a Level 4 Leadership and Management qualification which I hope to pass and then go on to study at university. I’m now a massive believer in education and the doors it can open and I just want to keep on making positive changes for myself and other people.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Never judge a book by its cover.

Do you have a secret talent/specialist skills?

I have a trainer collection of over 30 pairs. I can deliver a training session on every single Skills Forward product. I can dance (after a few beers).

What are 3 songs getting you through lock down?

D-Block Europe – Gucci Mane

Tinie Tempah – Top Winners

Bill Weather – Ain’t No Sunshine
