Name: Jessica Vick
Job title: Customer Engagement Apprentice
When did you start working at Skills Forward?
6th January 2020
What do you do on a typical day?
Each morning I look at my workload and prioritise my activities to make sure I’m organised for the day ahead. My typical day consists of supporting our customers with their queries through our live chat system, as well as answering phone calls and emails.
As an apprentice, I also have to make sure I book in time to work toward my qualification.
I was only at Skills Forward for a few months before everything changed due to lockdown so it has felt very out of the ordinary! I’m really looking forward to getting back to the office and being amongst the team when it’s safe.
What new skills have you learned?
Since I started working at Skills Forward, I have developed my multi-tasking skills. Also, good communication is the key to good customer service and I’m continuing to develop my confidence in my knowledge and supporting customers.
What’s your best memory of working at Skills Forward?
We had a huge meeting at St James’s Park in Newcastle with the rest of the NCFE group when I first started Skills Forward. A few days before the meeting I fell down the stairs at home and unfortunately was on crutches. My colleague, Jo, was like a mum to me. She was looking after me and getting me my lunch, hopping in lifts, carrying my bag and helping me to get around. She was my hero for the day!
What’s the best thing about working at Skills Forward?
As an apprentice, I’m constantly developing my skills and knowledge. The team is very helpful and understanding, there to support me personally as well as with work tasks. The office atmosphere is second to none and the people are great to work with. We’re a tightknit team so we catch up with each other regularly. We always have a good chat about work and life in general.
What are your goals for the future?
I would love to complete my apprenticeship and work my way up to management and gain skills to one day have my own business on social media. The skills I’m developing now will support me in the future and be transferable to so many things. I’m excited for what the future could hold!
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Don’t worry what other people think. Personality begins where comparison leaves off. Be unique. Be memorable. Be confident. Be proud.
Do you have a secret talent/specialist skills?
I film and promote brands through social media such as Instagram, Tiktok and YouTube. I currently have 29 thousand subscribers. I am regularly gifted by businesses to review and try out their products.
What’s your getting ready tune?
A playlist full of Beyoncé‘s hits has definitely got to be played when I’m getting ready to go out.
